What are the inherent differences between Danny and his father and Mr Hazell?
The main difference is their social status. Whilst Mr Hazell is your typical powerful resident you see in most stories, and indeed, in real life, Danny and his father represent a more modest people. Both are at odds with each other perhaps due to the lifestyle either live. Mr Hazell spends his days hunting pheasants and the lot whilst Danny and his father struggle to make ends meet.
Why is Danny the Champion of the world?
He is hailed this for playing a prank on Mr Hazell. He and his father plot to capture the pheasants from the woods so that Mr Hazell’s hunting competition is ruined. They are successful in this and manage to pull one over Mr Hazell. Hence, Danny’s father goes on to name him “Champion of the world”.
