While the novel is about a relationship between a boy and his father, their adventure is centered around criminal activity. Danny's father poaches wild pheasants from a rude, rich, local man—and the whole town seems to be in on it. Danny also borrows a customers' car and drives through the night in search of his father, at the age of nine. Of course, no work of fiction provides a direct guide on how to live or what is right and wrong; students should be encouraged to engage with these scenes critically, but you should note that they are likely to be excited by scenes like this.
