The title (and main) character of the book, Danny a young child still grieving from the loss of his beloved mother. He lives with his father in a carvan behind his service station. Despite his unfortunate circumstances, Danny is an observant and an energetic kid who ultimately has a very good heart.
William is Danny's father and operates the service station which he and his son live behind in a caravan. Although his work isn't exactly prestigious, William is an incredibly intelligent, loving, and creative man who tells Danny stories about the BFG (the Big Friendly Giant, who is the main character of one of author Roald Dahl's previous books). William also likes to poach pheasants and makes a prodigious number of good-looking fire lanterns.
