İf the system is in equilibrium then the total torque is zero. So if we look at direction of torques on point A (left pedestal), we see that direction of torque acting through the weight of the diver is in clockwise direction so torque acting on left pedestal by right pedestal must be in counterclockwise direction. So the force is directed upward. This means that the right pedestal is being compressed.
