Lets look at the total torque acting on point B (shown in the picture); the torque created by weight of diver is clockwise so torque created by left pedestal mus be in counterclockwise direction. That is why the force acting on the board by the left pedestal is directed downward.
So that means that the left pedestal is being stretched.
