Chapter 5 - Section 5.1 - The Unit Circle - 5.1 Exercises - Page 408: 57

Answer

Terminal Point (0.5 , -0.9)

Work Step by Step

The graph doesn't contain the position for -1.1, but we can find another point between 0 and $2\pi$ that has the same Terminal Point: $-1.1 + 2\pi \approx -1.1 + 6.28 = 5.18$ Using the unit circle graphed in the figure, draw a horizontal line from the point of the arc where the length is "5.2", to the y-axis. Write the coordinate of the closest mark to the point where the line reaches the axis. In this case, the closest mark is "-0.9", which is the y-coordinate. Repeat the same process for a vertical line and the x-axis, and you will get the x-coordinate. In this case, it is "0.5". Hint: You can check the results by using a calculator to find the value of sin -1.1 and cos -1.1 (respectively)(in Radians).
