Chapter 3 - Section 3.1 - Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables - Exercise Set - Page 190: 3

Work Step by Step

Our aim is to determine that whether the given ordered pair is a solution or not. In order to find this we will plug the given values of $x$ and $y$ , respectively. Plug $x=2$ and $y=-1$ in the given ordered pair of equations. $3x+4y=2$ $3(2)+4(-1)=2$ Thus, $2=2$ $2x+5y=1$ $2(2)+5(-1)=1$ Thus, $-1 \neq 1$ Hence, it is not a solution.
