Work Step by Step

a. Calculate the force using Coulomb’s law, equation 16–1. The distance between the centers of the particles is twice the radius. $$F=kQ^2/r^2$$ $$=(8.988\times10^9 Nm^2/C^2)(3.20\times10^{-19}C)^2/(2(4^{1/3})(1.2\times10^{-15}m))^2$$ $$=63.41N\approx 63 N$$ b. Find the acceleration using Newton’s second law. $$a=F/m=63.41N/(6.644\times10^{-27}kg)=9.5\times10^{27}m/s^2$$
