Chapter 10 - Section 10.8 - Systems of Nonlinear Equations - 10.8 Exercises - Page 754: 25

Answer

There is no solution to the system of equations.

Work Step by Step

Step 1. Use substitution method, from the first equation, we get $y=\frac{16}{x^2}$ ( for $x\ne0$) Step 2. Use it in the second equation to get: $x^2+\frac{64}{x^2}+16=0$ Step 3. Multiply $x^2$ on both sides to get: $x^4+16x^2+64=0$ or $(x^2+8)^2=0$ Step 4. As $x^2+8\geq8$, we conclude that there is no solution to the system of equations.
