Chapter 3 - Equations and Problem Solving - Chapter 3 Review Problem Set - Page 137: 7

Work Step by Step

The distributive property allows us to distribute anything multiplied by something inside of the parenthesis to whatever is inside of the parenthesis. Thus, we distribute the 2 to everything inside of the first set of parenthesis, the 5 to everything inside of the second set of parenthesis, and the 11 to everything inside of the third set of parenthesis, giving us the equation: $2x+2+5x-15=11x-22$. We now simplify: $7x-13=11x-22 \\\\ -13 = 4x-22 \\\\ 9=4x \\\\ x=9/4$
