Chapter P - Section P.9 - Linear Inequalities and Absolute Value Inequalities - Exercise Set - Page 140: 122

At least 1.5 hours and at most is 3.5 hours

Work Step by Step

First, let $x$ be the number of hours a mechanic is going to work on the job. Then, from the asked problem we have the inequality: $ 226\leq175 + 34x\leq294$ Next, all we have to do is solve the inequalities. Subtract $175$ on all sides. $ 226-175\leq175 + 34x-175\leq294-175$ $ 51\leq 34x\leq119$ Divide with $ 34$ on all sides. $ \frac{51}{34}\leq \frac{34x}{34}\leq\frac{119}{34}$ And we get: $1.5\leq x \leq3.5$ Which is our solution.
