Going through the motions of throwing, but not letting go, has no net effect. The system of "you + ball" starts with zero momentum. If you don't let go of the ball, no momentum is given to it, and you won't gain an oppositely directed momentum. Your position may change a little while you go through the motions, but you end up in the same spot.
