Chapter 7 - Quantum Theory and the Electronic Structure of Atoms - Questions & Problems - Page 315: 7.5

Answer

Planck's quantum theory says that atoms and molecules can only emit or absorb discreet units of energy which can be computed by using the formula E=hv, where h= Planck's constant, and v = frequency of radiation. The theory also states that the energy would always be emitted in integral multiples of hv (e.g. -1,3,7 but not 2.3, 1.4)
