Chapter 7 - Section 7.5 - Systems of Inequalities - Exercise Set - Page 865: 111

Answer

System of inequalities obtained are $y\le x\text{ and }x-y<3$.

Work Step by Step

We know that the solid line in the graph is a vertical line parallel to the y-axis passing through a point $\left( -2,0 \right)$ which represents the inequality as given below. As it can be seen from the first inequality that the line represents $x=y$ and the area toward the point $\left( 1,0 \right)$ is shaded, so it can be understood that it represents the inequality, $y\le x$ Also, the equation of the second line is $x-y=3$ and the area toward $\left( 0,0 \right)$ is shaded, so the inequality will be, $x-y<3$. Thus, the required inequalities are $y\le x\text{ and }x-y<3$.
