Limitless Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

NZT pill

The movie centers around a pill that gives the user superhuman cognitive abilities and usage of maximum brain capacity. It raises the question of what would a person do if given such a power to change their life around, and what consequences it might result in, and whether those consequences are worth the prize. The movie ends on a positive note, where Eddie was able to find a way to diminish the consequences, but there still remains the problematic aspect, which Lindy brings forth as well, of how far it changes the person, and how far would a person go under the influence of the pill.

Skips

After some time of using the pills, Eddie starts to experience what he calls skips, which are complete loses of memory and sudden changes, which are represented in the movie in a way that he suddenly finds himself in a different place hours later, without having the perception of how he got there. He quite literally skips from one point to the other.

Writing

Eddie is a writer, whose writing isn't going so well. He is going through a writer's block which is a devastating state for a writer to be in, which also reflects on the style of his life. He is insecure, unsure of himself and his clothes and apartment show a lack of care for himself.

Money

Money is the main motif of the movie. There is no moving forward, no success without having money, which Eddie realizes after he takes the pill. Ideas aren't worth much unless there is money to be invested in them. With money comes power and influence. Eddie gets involved with influential businessmen and wants to sign a contract which will bring him money, with which he believes not many problems are unsolvable.
