The Marriage of Figaro Lesson Plan

Study Objectives

If all of the elements of this lesson plan are employed, students will develop the following powers, skills, and understanding:

    Students will develop their ability to discern verbal irony and non-literal speech, as well as to infer information from nonverbal cues such as tone.

    Students will examine the play within its historical context of pre-Revolution France as well as bring perspective to the limitations of a canon that mostly includes works by white, male authors.

    Students will analyze content across multiple mediums by comparing the play by Beaumarchais with the corresponding opera by Mozart.
