Piphagor Piphagorovich Chertokutskiy
The main hero of the novel. One of the main aristocrats of B., he served first in a cavalry regiment, and was one of a number of significant and prominent officers. At the same time he was avaricious in some way, adulatory and ready to lie for getting a desired result.
Brigadier General
The hero stands here as a wasteful man and this wastefulness aims to show his richness and power. He is good in quality things and he doesn’t bear if somebody wants to cheat him.
Chertokutskiy’s wife
This lady is depicted here as a pretty woman, who had a large dowry in her time. She seems to really love her husband and worry about his problems. At the same time she seems to be silly to some extent.
