Chapter 24 - The Wave Nature of Light - Questions - Page 706: 24

Answer

The sun would appear much redder.

Work Step by Step

If the atmosphere were 50 times more dense, sunlight would be scattered much more than it is now. Even more blue light would be scattered away in all directions, making the light that reaches us very red. Think of the situation when the sun is very close to the horizon, when the sunlight passes through extra air in getting to us. It appears red.
