Chapter 24 - The Wave Nature of Light - Questions - Page 706: 12

Answer

Radio wavelengths are longer, allowing them to refract around a hill.

Work Step by Step

Diffraction refers to the bending of waves around corners or obstacles. It is most apparent when the size of the obstacle is about the size of the wavelength. Radio waves have much longer wavelengths than light waves. The diffraction of light waves around the hill is not apparent because of their very short wavelength.
