Chapter 18 - Electric Currents - Problems - Page 522: 41

Answer

24 bulbs

Work Step by Step

For one bulb, use equation 18–5 to calculate the power, and solve for the current I. $$P=IV$$ $$I=\frac{P}{V}=\frac{75W}{120V}$$ Set the current drawn by N bulbs equal to 15 amps. $$15\;A=N\frac{75W}{120V}$$ N=24 bulbs. This number of bulbs will draw 15 amps. If more are used, the fuse will blow. (In real life, one would not want to continuously run the circuit at 100 percent capacity, so don't try this at home!)
