Chapter 10 - Chemical Bonding II - Questions & Problems - Page 457: 10.4

Answer

For bonding-pair vs lone pair, the electrons in a bond are held by the attractive forces exerted by the nuclei of two bonded atoms. Lone pairs have more "spatial distribution" so they take up more space and have greater repulsion.
