Chapter 6 - Section 6.3 - Applications of the Normal Distribution - Exercises - Page 251: 6.26

Answer

a. From the given normal distribution, μ= 36 and σ= 2.5. For x =39 : z = $\frac{39-36}{2.5}$ = 1.2 $P(x \gt 160)$ = $P(z \gt 1.2 )$ = .1151 approximately. b. For x =29 : z = $\frac{29-36}{2.5}$ = -2.8 For x =34: z = $\frac{34-36}{2.5}$ = -0.8 $P(29 \leq x \leq 34)$ = $P(-2.8\leq z \leq -0.8)$ = 0.2119-0.0026 = .2093 approximately.
