Chapter 6 - Section 6.3 - Applications of the Normal Distribution - Exercises - Page 251: 6.25

Answer

a. From the given normal distribution, μ= 190 and σ= 21 . For x =160 : z = $\frac{160-190}{21}$ = -1.4286 $P(x \lt 160)$ = $P(z \lt -1.4286 )$ = .0766 approximately. b. For x =215 : z = $\frac{215-190}{21}$ = 1.19 For x =245: z = $\frac{245-190}{21}$ = 2.62 $P(215 \leq x \leq 245)$ = $P(1.19 \leq z \leq 2.62 )$ = 0.9956-0.8831 = .1125 approximately.
