Chapter 5 - Section 5.3 - Trigonometric Graphs - 5.3 Exercises - Page 430: 83

Answer

a) period is 20s b) wave height is 6

Work Step by Step

a) the period is found as $\frac{2\pi}{k}$. - $2\pi\div \frac{\pi}{10}$ - $2\pi \times \frac{10}{\pi}$ = 20s - Therefore P = 20s b) Since the amplitude is half the distance between the minimum and maximum values of the function, the height of the wave is twice the amplitude. So, in the base function $f(t)=a\cdot cos(k(t-b))$, $a$ is the amplitude and, in this case, it is $3$, so the height is twice that.
