Feeling of unease like a burning knife in chest

A feeling of unease, the same one that had been perched on my shoulder whispering dark things in my ear for weeks, became a burning knife in my chest—sinking slowly, tearing everything in its path.

Ruby is scouting the streets of LA to find a way to escape. Nerves being at the highest she gets even more anxious, almost like she knows something bad is lying in front of her. She is not wrong because it is after that moment that she learns the truth about agents' plan to trade them for money.

Words as a fist around heart

His words wrapped around my heart like a fist.

Cole lost control over his powers and had to use them. He explains the feeling of losing control to Ruby and his words hit her in the heart, because she knows the feeling all too well.

Memory as a fading sunbeam

The texture of the memory had changed, becoming like a fading sunbeam.

Chubs confronts Ruby because of her behavior towards Liam. Even though the words seem accusatory, Ruby knows that he speaks them out of concern. She remembers the feeling when she reunited with him again and the memory seems like a fading sunbeam in the moment.

The images began to smear, dripping down like ink on a wet page.

Ruby describes the feeling of getting into Clancy's head and seeing his memories. He finally let her in to see his horrible experience at Thurmond when they ran tests on him.
