Why did Catherine "betray her own heart"?
Some may think that the problem lay in the difference between Catherine's class background and Heathcliff's—she wanted access to riches and to the life of luxury that Edgar, and Thrushcross Grange, could provide. Others may think that Catherine had some fear of her own desires, or fear of Heathcliff and his angry, sullen behavior during their adolescence.
