The Uninhabitable Earth

The Uninhabitable Earth Analysis

The rate at which global warming is escalating should worry humans. Wallace-Wells calls for action in his book, The Uninhabitable Earth. He raises concerns about the climate crisis. Climate change has led to the loss of properties and lives. Floods, wildfires, and hurricanes have led to the loss of homes and lives. In recent years, bushfires and hurricanes have escalated. Life has become quite tricky in this world. People have undermined their efforts to act on climate change. Possibly, this may be the reason things are getting out of our hands. Scientists have warned against global warming, but many people don’t heed their advice.

Global warming melts Arctic ice leading to more sunlight being absorbed by the earth. As a consequence, oceans will absorb less atmospheric carbon leading to faster warming of the planet. Furthermore, global warming can lead to the melting of the Arctic permafrost, which is full of carbon. This may lead to more carbon in the atmosphere resulting in high temperatures causing wildfires. Ignoring the efforts to curb the increase of global warming will lead to loss of lives and properties. Eventually, humans may experience extinction.

Wallace-Wells gives examples of many calamities that have occurred in recent times. Such events have happened so faster to the astonishment of smart scientists. Typhoons, hurricanes, bushfires, and floods experienced across various parts of the world should cause people to worry. The escalation of global emissions should be a wakeup call for humans to take action. The biggest challenge in fighting against global warming is climate change denial. Politicians and industrialists with self-interests have been undermining the efforts to act on the climate crisis. Such people have organized campaigns to promote denial.
