Geoffrey Tempest
Tempest is a poor but honorable journalist whose career struggles to take off, living him in a large debt. All this changes for him when he realizes, he has come into money after the death of a relative. He is approached by Lucio, a foreign wealth aristocrat, who befriends him and advises him on how to use his newfound wealth. The greed at wanting to be someone more corrupts his soul and soon he begins to regret the actions he has made.
Prince Lucio Rimânez
Lucio is the devil incarnate on Earth. He is portrayed as a dark, handsome and extremely wealthy foreign aristocrat who is eager to befriend Tempest – as a bid to corrupt his soul. He proceeds to give Tempest increasingly manipulative ideas and thoughts about his new wealth and status. Ultimately, Lucio is unsuccessful in corrupting Tempest.
Mavis Clare
Clare is Tempest’s main love interest, despite him marrying another. She is a strong feminist of her time, and also a fellow writer. This, initially, makes Tempest jealous due to the success she has in her career, but soon he comes to admire her, and, eventually, love and marry her.
