A Dog Named Chip
There is a character named Chip in this tech-heavy story. Chip is an artificial dog. A dogbot, one might say. Not the author, of course, who prefers another description:
“Chip fled off down the street like a large furry bullet.”
Not Your Average Girl
One female character gets a metaphor-laden description that may cause one to wonder if she is, in fact, female at all.
“Her legs had morphed into something other than legs. They looked like wheels. And her gray eyes watched him like a missile locked on target.”
The Mind's Eye
The simile’s comparison holds great power for the writer who wishes to make a character’s thought comes to life:
“Martin stirred his cereal as Cassie would have done, staring into the colorful bowl as if he could hypnotize himself into believing that his little sister held the spoon.”
Because There’s Always Room For It
Strange things happen in this story. And even when the things that happen aren’t really strange, the sensation they produce is off the wall:
“He was standing on a broad soft cherry-colored slab that bounced like a trampoline. It’s Jell-O! he thought.
Metaphorical Insanity
Take a few seconds to come up with as many metaphors related to insanity as you can. Crazy house. Nuthouse. Loony tunes. And, of course, the old standby which certain presents a tangible image of the condition at its worst:
“Bug had been outside and had come back a drooling madman.”
