Explain what passes between Don Antonio and Don Pedro. Who has a better understanding of it? Why?
Although both men are masked in their first encounter, Don Antonio catches Don Pedro's attention when he speaks dismissively of Florinda. They recognize each other at first, though, only as rivals for Angelica's purchase. When Antonio takes off his mask, however, Pedro decides to challenge him for Florinda's honor rather than for Angelica's affection. Since Pedro is still masked, Antonio assumes him to be Belvile, his rival for Florinda's affections.
