    Constellations

    Kind of Activity:

    Artistic Response

    Objective:

    Students will synthesize constellation facts with the ideas from the poem to help them creatively invent a constellation for themselves.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.4, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.7, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.9

    Structure:

    For this activity, using the poem "Dead Stars" as inspiration, students will research the constellations mentioned in the poem: Orion, Antlia, Centaurus, Draco, Lacerta, Hydra, Lyra, and Lynx. What are the origins and stories behind these constellations? What do they look like? They should take notes on each constellation.
