The story starts from the moment when Amal reads a diary, the memoirs of her grand grandmother Anna. This diary and other things were given to her by Isabel, an American woman from New York City. Amal started to be deeply interested in this mysterious story, and they together began to investigate the memoirs.
In those memoirs, Anna was writing all her emotional problems, doubts and worries. She tells about how her husband changed after the war, how lonely she was even together with him. Later, Edward died and she stayed brokenhearted with nobody around, just on her own. In this despair she decided to travel abroad. However, she was bored with typical and predictable tourism and wanted to go to the place of her dreams – Egypt, despite the contradiction between her native country and Egypt. She dressed like a man to see Pyramids and other places of attraction. But, during her second trip she was kidnapped by Egyptian nationalists, who wanted to use her for releasing political prisoner. The wife of this prisoner, Layla, could not believe that her partners did it and, together with her brother Sharif, let Anna go. They became friends after this and they promised Anna to help her in achieving her dream.
They were traveling to many places Anna had always wanted to see, and during this time Anna and Sharif got closer to each other. Still, Sharif was afraid of his feelings and worried about their future, so he kept a distance from her. Anna, having noticed this, decided to go home, but Layla encouraged her brother to show his feelings and make a proposal to Anna. They married and didn’t care about politics and obstacles, they just loved each other deeply. They moved to Sharif’s house and started to live with his parents. Anna worked as a translator for foreigners and Sharif was an attorney. Soon, they gave birth to their daughter Nur. After ten happy years together Anna became a widow for the second time because of attack on Sharif. She took Nur and went back to England.
In the same time Isabel, during investigations, falls in love with Amal’s brother Omar. But soon Omar realizes that he was lover of her mother in the past and can be even her father. Going on with investigation they find there tapestry with Egyptian symbols. This tapestry was made by Anna, she stopped making it just before Sharif was attacked. She divided it among herself, Layla and who has the third part is unknown. Soon Isabel finds it in her camera bag and says that it was put there by mysterious woman from the prison she visited. However, nobody has seen this woman and the fact that this woman really was in that prison is questionable, so how Isabel gained this panel remains a mystery.
