Tom Hanks
Despite a film debut in which he was required to fall deeply in love with a mermaid, Hanks has gone on to have one of the most varied and respected careers in Hollywood. Do you know anyone who doesn't like him? Few moviegoers do. Although the characters he portrays are not always particularly likable - for example, Eamon Bailey in The Circle - he always manages to find the latent humanity in them so that even if they alienate us completely, we are always able to see a little tiny piece of good in them through his portrayal.
Hanks is best known for his five collaborations with Steven Spielberg, including the multi-award winning Saving Private Ryan and Catch Me If You Can.With Spielberg he also returned to the theme of World War Two and its soldiers with the television mini-series Band of Brothers, also earning directorial credit as well. In 1994 he became only the second actor to win an Academy Award two years in a row.
Emma Watson
Forever identified as Harry Potter's best buddy Hermione Grainger, Watson was still trying to make a successful transition into adult roles when she took the role of Mae Holland. Judging by the fact that she was nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Actress in a Motion Picture for her performance, it was not the most successful transition in the world. A graduate of Brown University, Watson has become more famous recently for her activism than her acting, founding the pro-women organization He For She, and being a vocal participant in the Me Too movement.
Bill Paxton
This was Paxton's final role, and he never lived to see the final cut of it, passing away two months before the movie's release. He was remembered in the final credits, the simple phrase, "For Bill" appearing on screen after everything else had run through it. Paxton was one of Hollywood's most popular actors, appearing on both big and small screens and enjoying huge success on- both. He is best known for his role in the movies Apollo 13 in which he appeared alongside Tom Hanks for the first time, and also Twister. After his death, a group of storm chasers paid tribute to him by spelling out his initials through the Spotter Network, the system through which they learn about storm patterns and severe weather locations.
Glenne Headly
Were it not for the good health of the rest of the movie's cast one might begin to suspect that the movie was cursed; Headly also died soon after the release, and the role of Bonnie Holland would prove to be her penultimate one. Headly was best known for her role in Dick Tracy opposite then-couple Warren Beatty and Madonna.
Patton Oswalt
Oswalt voiced the character of Remy in the animated classic Ratatouille and is also instantly recognizable to fans of stand-up comedy everywhere. Recently, though, he has been more famous for his investigational work into the identity of the infamous Golden State Killer; Oswalt's first wife, Michelle McNamara, was a true crime writer who had become obsessed with the case, and particularly with unmasking the killer. After she passed away, Oswalt decided to finish her book about the case for her. A short time after the book's release, the Golden State Killer was identified and his arrest announced by the Sacramento Sheriff's Office.
John Boyega
Boyega is a British actor known best for his roles in the Star Wars franchise. He has also appeared frequently in the television series 24. Boyega was the recipient of the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2016.
Karen Gillan
Before The Circle, Scottish actress Gillan's work had been predominantly in the science fiction realm; she was a Doctor Who girl for three years before appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Volumes 1 and 2, and subsequently appearing in the Marvel franchise. Her breakout starring role was in the remake of the Robin Williams film Jumanji.
