    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will consider an alternative view of one of the narrations

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.3

    Structure:

    The Boat brings up many questions about authorship, authenticity, and who gets to tell which kinds of stories. In this creative-writing exercise, students will strengthen their writing skills by placing themselves in the shoes of one of Le's secondary characters.

    They may choose from the following stories and viewpoints:

    • "Love and Honor and Pity and Pride and Compassion and Sacrifice," from the perspective of Nam's father or Nam's girlfriend
