Chapter 1 - Concepts of Motion - Exercises and Problems - Page 28: 8

Answer

8.a. The average speed between points 1 and 2 is less than between points 0 and 1. 8.b. See motion diagram.

Work Step by Step

8.a. Because the distance between points 1 and 2 is smaller than the distance between points 0 and 1 and knowing the the interval of time between each point is the same, the average velocity between points 1 and 2 is less than the average velocity between points 0 and 1. 8.b. First identify velocity vectors between ordered points. Next draw V2. After, starting from the tip of V2, draw V1 facing the opposite direction. The vector from the base of V2 to the tip V1 is the change in velocity (ΔV) and is the acceleration vector between V1 and V2.
