Chapter 29 - Magnetic Fields Due to Currents - Problems - Page 856: 4

Answer

Zero

Work Step by Step

The current passing through the upper semi-circular arc is in the clockwise direction. It produces a magnetic field at the center of the circular loop which is directed into the plane. The current passing through the semicircular-arc at the bottom is in the anticlockwise direction. This current produces a magnetic field at the center C which is equal in magnitude to that produced by the current in the upper semi-circular arc but opposite in direction(coming out from the plane). Therefore, the magnetic fields get canceled and the net magnetic field becomes 0.
