Chapter 11 Intermolecular Forces and Liquids - Study Questions - Page 435b: 26

Answer

Viscosity is affected by intermolecular forces and temperature. Glycerol is expected to have the highest viscosity because it has the most hydrogen bonds (3 O-H bonds). Temperature does effect viscosity.

Work Step by Step

Hydrogen bonding is a strong form of intermolecular attraction. The stronger the intermolecular force, the higher viscosity. As temperature increases, viscosity decreases; the liquid becomes less resistant to flow.
