We know that bond enthalpy is the energy required to break the bond of 1 mole of two atoms in gaseous state. For diatomic molecules the bond enthalpies can be easily determined as they are measured directly. In polyatomic molecules, we have different results from different reactions hence the average enthalpy is considered for these molecules.
