We know that hydration is a process in which an ion is surrounded by water molecules. Water is a polar molecule and has a permanent dipole. The Oxygen atom in water has a negative dipole and attracts the positive side of ion, and the hydrogen molecule has a positive dipole and attracts the negative side of the ion.
