Chapter 9 - Section 9.1 - Overview of Digestion - Check Your Progress - Page 171: 2

Answer

Ingestion, digestion, movement, absorption, and elimination.

Work Step by Step

Ingestion occurs when the mouth takes in food. Digestion is the breaking down of large pieces of food into small, digestible pieces. Movement along the gastrointestinal tract passes food from one organ to the next. Absorption is when the sub-unit molecules of food cross the gastrointestinal tract and enter the cells lining the tract. Elimination is the removal of non-digestible wastes from the body.
