Cholecystokinin (CCK), is a peptide hormone secreted by neuroendocrine cells of the duodenal mucosa . It causes the gall bladder to contract (pump) and the liver to release bile.

Bile is synthesized in the liver and stored in the gall bladder. The pancreas synthesizes pancreatic enzymes--amylase, lipase, trypsin and chymotrypsin.
