Answer

D. Manufacture of hormones

Work Step by Step

Hormones are manufactured by glands and neuroendocrine cells. The blood does not manufacture/synthesize hormones. The following are some of the functions of the blood: (1) Blood transports hormones, nutrients, and oxygen to cells (2) The blood transports carbon dioxide and other waste substances away from cells (3) Blood cells (granulocytes and agranulocytes) protect the body against infections ( 4).The cardiovascular system helps to maintain body temperature homeostasis by shunting blood from to core to shell (skin) to facilitate heat loss when body temperature rises above the set point (98.6deg. F), and from shell to core to keep vital internal organ warm when body temperature dips below set point. (5). By forming platelet plugs thrombocytes protect against excessive blood loss when small blood vessels are punctured.
