The alveoli are the site for gas exchange. If the alveoli will not function well, it will affect the breathing of a person. Oxygen will not be able to be picked up by the red blood cell and the carbon dioxide will not be expelled. If there is no oxygen, the body's systems will not function properly. It will result in a number of lung diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema, or tuberculosis which are life-threatening diseases.
