Chapter 28 - The Female Reproductive System - Study Guide - True or False - Page 1095: 4

Answer

4. True

Work Step by Step

A thin, active girl is likely to start menstruating later than an overweight, inactive one. Anorexic girls experience menarche very late; girls who are overweight tend to have puberty earlier that average. However, boys who are overweight tend to arrive at puberty later than average. Higher body mass index(BMI) correlates with early menarche. A BMI of 18.5 is considered normal; a BMI of 25 is considered indicates overweight, while BMI of 30 or more means one is obese.
