Answer

Negative feedback loops are the body's method of maintaining balance, or homeostasis. Negative feedback loops ensure that no physiological change is allowed to alter without check. Feedback loops may include a receptor, integrating center, and effector, such as in the case of sweating to reduce temperature. In this scenario, thermoreceptors in the skin detect elevations in temperature, sending a signal to the brain. The integrating center of the brain triggers the secretion of sweat from eccrine sweat glands in the epidermis.

Work Step by Step

Thermoreceptors are receive environmental signals to generate a nerve impulse. This travels to the brain, or integrating center, where the signal is relayed back to the skin to trigger sweating through sweat glands.
