Chapter 5 - Section 5.5 - The Hypergeometric Probability Distribution - Exercises - Page 206: 5.41

Answer

Hyper-geometric distribution is the probability distribution that is applied to determine the probability of x successes in n trials when the trials are not independent. It is applicable when the trials are not independent, such a case occurs when a sample is drawn without replacement from a finite population. For example, suppose 20% of all auto parts manufactured at a company are defective. Four auto parts are selected at random. We are to find the probability that three of the four auto parts are good and one is defective.
