If we are given a value of x that satisfies the system, then there is also a value of y that satisfies the system as well and we can solve for this value of y. We do this by substituting the value of x into one of the original equations and then solve for y. Since we have the values of both x and y, we can have one point where the two lines intersect leading us to have one solution.
