    The '80s: Fantasy Legends & Sci-Fi Legacies

    Long-term Project

    Objective:

    Students will conduct research on the fantasy and sci-fi stories and traditions that play a part in Cline's image of the 1980s, and discuss how these elements underlie the story of the novel.

    Structure:

    As explained in Days 1 through 3, in order to understand Ready Player One, it is important to have an in-depth understanding of the cultural and social context in the 1980s, along with the fantasy and sci-fi legends that Cline references in the novel (as elements of Halliday's interests that underlie the OASIS's construction and the Hunt).
