The symbolism of homosexuality

Homosexuality is symbolized by 'shaych', which means one prefers same-sex orientation. When Vanyel returns to his community, he is compared to hell because of his sexual orientation. The people call him shaych because he is sexually attracted to fellow men. However, Vanyel is not moved because he publicly accepts his homosexual status.

The symbol of death

The author figuratively uses death as an emblem of the end of suffering. When Vanyel is fatally injured, he becomes eager to accept death to unite with his lover Tylendel. However, he unexpectedly sees an indistinguishable figure who gives him the choice of living or dying. If Vanyel accepts to die, that will mark the end of his suffering. However, If Vanyel chooses to live, he will continue to suffer, but the sufferings of Valdemar be shifted. Vanyel chooses to live and continue suffering.

Irresponsible parenting

Tashir's parent's negligence symbolizes irresponsible parenting. The reader learns that Tashir's father is abusive, and his mother is absent. Making matters worse, Tashir's mother wants to have sex with him. The role of parents is to love and take full responsibility for providing for their children. However, Tashir's parents do exactly the opposite.

Melenna as a symbol of sexual immorality

Melenna is the maid of Lady Treesa, but she is depicted as a sex predator. Melenna secretly wants to have sex with the sons of her boss, Vanyel and Mekeal. However, Melenna realizes that Vanyel is not sexually attracted to her, and she turns to Mekeal, who turns out to be her sexual victim. Therefore, Melenna manages to have sex with Mekeal and later gives birth to Medren.
