Lost in Translation (2003 Film) Characters

Lost in Translation (2003 Film) Character List

Bob Harris

Bob Harris, an aging American actor, is the main character and protagonist of the film. No longer finding work in the movies, he has turned to money in commercials. For a rather big advertising campaign, Bob, a married man, leaves his wife in the States and travels to Tokyo for filming. There, he meets the lovely young Charlotte, a college graduate who is also married. The two fall in love, but are unable to do anything further when Bob has to go to America. In the movie's final scene, the two kiss each other and bid farewell.

Charlotte

Charlotte is rather young - still in her twenties, and fresh out of college. Still, she is married to John, a photographer that rarely spends time with her because of his photographing duties. Charlotte and Bob Harris stay at the same hotel, and they pass by each other every day. They don't really talk until one day when Charlotte initiates a conversation. The two go downtown to Tokyo and have fun with Charlotte's friends, and they fall in love, despite the fact that they are both married. Their affair is cut short when Bob has to return to the United States.

John

John is a photographer living in Tokyo. He is married to Charlotte, but rarely spends time with her because of his work. A static character, John is often busy and away, but provides a conflict in the relationship between Bob and Charlotte.
